The Buttered Roll: Charming New York Institution or Nah?
You've gotta give it to the buttered roll: It's not trying to be anything more than it is. It's a deli-and-bodega staple, a morning go-to, a small-coffee accompaniment. It's cheap. It's unpretentious.
At least, it seemed unpretentious until the New York Times featured "An Ode to the Buttered Roll," setting off opinions across the internet.
Some people felt insulted by the suggestion that the buttered roll is a uniquely "New York" thing.

A homage to the humble glass of iced water, a quiet New York City ritual that is virtually unheard of outside the five boroughs.

Others (including self-reported New Yorkers) voiced an opinion felt by many: I don't get what's so special about this cult classic!
Agree, but can't stop rooting for the happily bland underdog!

Tell us what you think: is the buttered roll a charming New York institution, or just an unremarkable, empty-carb breakfast? Use the hashtag #MyWrongOpinion.
Butter roll in a HARD ROLL with butter not a kaiser roll can't find those 60 miles from NYC. I miss them #mywrongopinion

Give B Roll its due. For all native NYCers who eat it to power this city, and can't afford that egg on top. #mywrongopinion.

Fond memories of a buttered roll dunked into hot, sweet, milky tea -- a sign of achieving Senior status at my midtown HS.
Unless the butter is organic local and the bread is artisanal, NY should not claim #mywrongopinion
