Can Geoengineering Fight Climate Change?

One of the most controversial areas in climate science today is geoengineering: developing technologies that could scrub carbon from the atmosphere or reflect sunlight away from the planet. A report recently issued by the National Research Council is calling for more federal funding for research into geoengineering projects, pushing the idea further into the mainstream. Eli Kintisch, a correspondent for Science magazine and author of Hack the Planet: Science's Best Hope - or Worst Nightmare - for Averting Climate Catastrophe, discusses the future of geoengineering.
