Cha Wa at Bryant Park, part of Carnegie Hall Citywide
Tickets: FREE. Show at 6 pm.

Some of New Orleans’ most irresistible musical sounds get woven together in the band called Cha Wa. Over a funky Crescent City beat, they blend New Orleans brass band music with the sounds of the so-called Mardi Gras Indians, which have historically been African-Americans dressed as Native Americans marching through the streets, singing their fun, loud, boastful songs. Their name is a slang phrase used by Mardi Gras Indian tribes, meaning “we’re comin’ for ya” or “here we come” and the band Cha Wa brings a little New Orleans party to New York in a free concert tonight at Bryant Park.
