Aug. 19. 6:30PM. $45.43

Chief Adjuah is a singer, composer, and music instrument inventor. But he wasn’t always known for those things – when his career began, under his birth name Christian Scott, he was known as a hot young jazz trumpeter. Over the past decade though, he’s explored his family’s roots in New Orleans and West Africa, eventually taking the name Xian aTunde Adjuah and taking the role of Chief of one of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras Indian tribes. His music encompasses traditional West African percussion and hip hop-style production, in a style he calls Stretch Music. Chief Adjuah, formerly known as Christian Scott plays Aug. 19 at Le Poisson Rouge.
