Christopher Janney: Reach New York at the 34th Street/Herald Square Subway Station
Ongoing. FREE.

For even the most dedicated fan of the New York City subways, assuming such people exist, it would be stretch to say that the system is musical. But there is one notable exception, although you may have to stretch to get the full effect. The sound installation called Reach was installed on the 34th Street station of the N and R lines in 1995, and while it plays itself 24/7, riders can reach up and interrupt the light sensors, which changes the sound of the music. Reach New York, the sound installation by Christopher Janney is at the 34th Street/Herald Square station; you can hear and play Reach any time at the N and R platform.
