The 2023 Latin Grammy nominations are out, and Cimafunk has been nominated in the Best Latin Rock or Alternative category for his latest album, El Alimento. Cimafunk takes his stage name from the Cimarron – Cubans of African descent who rebelled against slavery – and his music mixes Afro-Cuban roots music with rock, funk, and rap. Naturally it takes a fair number of people to do all that, so Cimafunk usually tours with his 9-piece Havana-based band called La Tribu. He and his band are playing at the Blue Note, Sept. 28-Oct. 1.
