City Council Races 2017: Corruption Paves Way for New Leadership

WNYC News | Sep 6, 2017

WNYC is taking a closer look at some of the most contested City Council races in partnership with City Limits and Gotham Gazette.

District 28 represents southeast Queens where the seat is currently vacant after City Council Member Ruben Wills was convicted of fraud and grand larceny this summer.

The democratic race features Adrienne Adams, Community Board 12 chairwoman, who previously ran for the State Senate District 10 seat in 2016. Adams will face off against newcomers Richard David and Hettie Powell.

Ben Max, executive editor of Gotham Gazette, spoke to WNYC’s Richard Hake about Adams' experience, David and Powell’s chances and District 28’s ongoing problem with local government corruption.
