Claire Dickson is a Brooklyn-based vocalist whose solo album, Starland, grew out of a trip to the Arctic. When the ship she was on dropped anchor near a rocky shore, Dickson spent the night listening to the waves breaking on the rocks, and began sketching melodies and harmonies that might accompany that sound. Back home, using just her voice and her own electronics, she took those musical ideas and created eerie, wintry songs like “Sea Change.” Claire Dickson performs Tuesday, Aug. 23 at The Footlight, under the Windjammer Bar in Ridgewood, Queens.
