Cosmo Sheldrake is an English musician, and yes, that’s his real name. He’s the brother of Merlin Sheldrake, who somehow became a best-selling mycologist – a scientist who studies fungi; and he’s the son of Rupert Sheldrake who, in biology circles at least, is somehow considered a hugely controversial figure. So Cosmo is from an improbable family and he makes improbably catchy songs. Built on rickety layers of samples and found sounds, and topped with his often arcane or deadpan lyrics, Cosmo Sheldrake’s songs often have a playful quality. He plays July 10 at Racket.
