Why We Can't Diagnose Trump
The psychiatric community has debated diagnosing public figures like President Trump. But Dr. Allen Frances, former chairman of the DSM-IV Task Force and part of the leadership group for the DSM-III and DSM-III-R, former chair of the department of psychiatry and behavioral science at Duke University School of Medicine, and the author of Twilight of American Sanity: A Psychiatrist Analyzes the Age of Trump (William Morrow, 2017), says that we should refrain from diagnosing him as mentally ill.Â
"It's a terrible mistake to confuse mental illness w bad behavior. it's unfair to the mentally ill to be lumped w Trump" @AllenFrancesMD
