Cuomo, De Blasio Continue Sending Mixed Messages On Future of City School Year

WNYC News | Apr 13, 2020

Mixed messages from Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo over the fate of the New York City school-year continued for a third day Monday.

When the mayor said this weekend that schools would remain closed, the governor said that was his opinion. Asked about the miscommunication, de Blasio was unrelenting

"I think everyday people just want to know ultimately where we're going to go and I'm telling you schools are not going to open because it won't be safe to open them."

Still, hours later, while announcing a regional collaboration to combat COVID-19, Cuomo reiterated the state will decide when and if schools remain closed or reopen

"There is one state. There is one state policy. It couldn't be clearer, couldn't be simpler."

His current executive order runs through April 29th.
