Percussionist, composer and bandleader Cyro Baptista is from Brazil, but he’s been a fixture on the New York music scene for decades. Baptista is the sort of guy who, if you ask him what type of music he plays, will simply say “yes.” He’s played with jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma, legendary singer Paul Simon, avant-garde figures like John Zorn and Laurie Anderson, and all along he’s led various groups of his own, most of them dance-based. Cyro Baptista leads a quintet (guitarist John Lee, accordionist Felipe Hostins, bassist Eduardo Belo, saxophonist James Casey and drummer Gil Oliveira) on Wed. Feb. 26, and Thurs. Feb. 27 at Dizzy’s Club at Jazz At Lincoln Center.
