Daniel Bachman – “Rappahannock River Rag" (Weekly Music Roundup)

Virginia guitarist and folklorist Daniel Bachman wasted no time releasing one of 2022’s first notable albums. Lonesome Weary Blues sounds like a home recording, and includes a surprisingly swinging version of “Amazing Grace.” But for the most part, Bachman does his own versions of lesser-known songs, played with an infectious sense of joy, and perhaps of state pride, as some of them seem to be associated with Virginia. Like this one, “Rappahannock River Rag,'' by the late, Virginia-born Jack Rose and "Beautiful Eyes of Virginia" by Lemuel Turner. Lonesome Weary Blues is part of the Weekly Music Roundup.
