Back in May, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law SB4, or Senate Bill 4, which limits the ability of so-called "sanctuary cities" to protect undocumented immigrants. Since then, several cities and counties have filed a lawsuit against SB4 in federal court, claiming that the order violates the U.S. Constitution.

A federal judge has until Friday to decide whether or not to grant an injunction against SB4. In the meantime, immigrants in Texas illegally may be hesitant to seek help via the state's official relief efforts, for fear of deportation.

Julián Aguilar, border and immigration reporter for The Texas Tribune, joins The Takeaway to share his reporting.
