While America remains squarely fixated on the ongoing devastation being wrought by Tropical Storm Harvey, a deadly monsoon season overseas has flooded parts of India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, leaving more than 1,200 dead.

Communities dependent on crops have seen acres of farmland washed away. As victims seek shelter in tents, there exists growing worry about the potential for widespread disease.

Will the spotlight on Hurricane Harvey take away from the international focus abroad? Annie Gowen, India bureau chief for The Washington Post, weighs in.
