Deerlady is the name of a collaborative project from singer and multi-instrumentalist Mali Obomsawin and guitarist and singer Magdalena Abrego. Obomsawin’s songs draw on her Native Abenaki heritage, and the band name, Deerlady, is from a figure in Native American mythology. Earlier this year, the duo released their debut album together, with the cheeky titled Greatest Hits, full of softly sung vocals set against walls of aggressively fuzzy and beefy guitars. Deerlady plays on Sept. 20 at Public Records.
