Dirty Dozen: Michael Winograd Klezmer Trio at Barbès (IN-PERSON/Live Stream)
April 22, 7PM and 9PM. $25 (SOLD-OUT)
Live Streams via Youtube.
Clarinetist Michael Winograd keeps alive a long tradition of klezmer music in New York. Klezmer, sometimes nicknamed Jewish soul music, has seen lots of great clarinetists, and Winograd – like many other klezmer fans – is particularly fond of the 1920s star Naftule Brandwein. Winograd has recorded a whole album of Naftule’s songs, including this “Araber Tants,” or Arab Dance. Michael Winograd, along with accordionist (and wall-paperer) Christina Crowder, and drummer (and house painter) David Licht, play two sets on Thursday night, April 22, live, at Barbès in Brooklyn. It’s part of their Dirty Dozen series, where only a dozen people are allowed in, and these events have sold-out quickly. Luckily, there's also a live stream via Youtube.
