The Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Latin Experience Residency at The Blue Note
Nov. 15, 22, 29. $20-$35. Sets at 8PM and 10:30PM

In the 1940s, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie met Chano Pozo, the Cuban percussionist, and the two set about creating a style of Afro-Cuban jazz whose impact is still being felt today. Gillespie’s longtime bass player, John Lee, keeps that tradition alive by leading the Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Latin Experience, a 6-to-8 piece band that plays some of Gillespie’s hits, as well as some newer Latin jazz that Dizzy might be playing if he were around today. The Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Latin Experience, also featuring Mario Grillo (Machito Jr) plays a Monday night Residency on Nov. 15, 22, and 29 at The Blue Note.
