“I can make you dance.” That’s what it says on DJ Rekha’s Instagram account. And for the last couple of decades, Rekha has been doing just that here in New York. Born in the UK to a South Asian family, Rekha stretched gender and genre norms by introducing the high-octane Punjabi dance music known as Bhangra to the city’s musical underground. Now, they’re spinning something a little different – a show called Bollywood Disco. But the intent is the same – to make you dance. DJ Rekha unveils their Bollywood Disco on Nov. 27 at the Sultan Room.
