Dorit Chrysler at e-flux
Feb. 23. 7PM. $15.

Dorit Chrysler is a Berlin-based player of the theremin, a nearly century-old electric instrument that she doesn’t actually touch – the machine responds to movement, and the motion of her hands shapes the sound. Chrysler is about to release a record in which she installed several theremins in a room with Alexander Calder’s slowly moving sculptures, allowing them to play the instruments. She then edited and produced the resulting an album called Calder Plays Theremin. Dorit Chrysler plays the theremin, with visuals by the quartet Optipus, and unveils her new album on Thursday, Feb. 22  at e-flux in Brooklyn.
