Dystopian Novel Envisions America's Second Civil War

The Leonard Lopate Show | Apr 12, 2017

Journalist Omar El Akkad joins us to discuss his debut novel American War: A novel. It imagines a dystopian future set in 2075 where the United States is in the midst of another civil war. Floods brought on by climate change have swallowed the coasts and Southern states have seceded from the North because of a fossil fuel ban. The novel follows a family living in a refugee camp in the south.

Omar El Akkad will be in conversation with Emily St. John Mandel on April 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Bookstore (143 7th Ave., Brooklyn). It will be followed by audience questions and a book signing.
