The Eastern-Influenced Irish Blues of Guitarist Cian Nugent

Spinning on Air | Mar 14, 2014

Irish guitar virtuoso Cian Nugent says his music has "Irish intentions" even though it isn't traditional Celtic music. Influenced by the American Primitivism of John Fahey and by Azerbaijan saz player Edalat Nasibov, as well as his own Irish roots, Nugent explores what he agrees could be called Eastern-Influenced Irish Blues.

Nugent first performed on Spinning On Air in 2008 when he was 19 years old. Now he's back to play again in the WNYC Studio, and to talk with David Garland about his solo music, and his new band, Cian Nugent and The Cosmos. This show first aired March 16, 2014.
