Ghanaian musician, bandleader, and guitarist Ebo Taylor helped define the hugely popular form of West African pop known as “highlife” in the 70s and 80s. Now, he’s about to release an album with film music composer Adrian Younge and percussionist Ali Shaheed Muhammad (from A Tribe Called Quest). “Obra Akyedzi,” or “gift of life,” is the first single, and it’s a mix of Black American funk, jazz & soul with the polyrhythmic counterpart of West African breaks.
