Pianist Eddie Palmieri has been one of the leading lights on New York’s Latin Jazz scene for 60 years. He’s an NEA Jazz Master, and the mantelpiece at home must be sagging under the weight of all those Grammy awards. Palmieri’s music is a blend of jazz improvisation, Latin – and especially Puerto Rican – rhythms, and a keen ear for arrangements. But for all its sophistication, what makes his music a perennial favorite is how danceable it is. Eddie Palmieri leads a six piece band on Friday night, May 28, outside at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.
