Election Returns: Cuomo Prevails, Smith Loses, More

The Brian Lehrer Show | Sep 10, 2014

Governor Cuomo and his pick for Lt Governor Kathy Hochul fended off challengers Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu in the Democratic primary last night -- in an election that saw less than 10% of registered Democrats turn out to vote. Meanwhile, in New York City, voters rejected State Senator Malcom Smith, but embattled State Senator John Sampson won his primary. And State Senator Tony Avella bested John Liu, the former Comptroller and mayoral candidate hoping to make a political comeback. Jimmy Vielkind, Albany bureau chief for Capital New York, discusses the results, and the lessons learned -- if any -- for Cuomo and others.
