Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK in Central Park
Free, Download the app. Active now until Dec. 31, 2020

The American composer Ellen Reid won the Pulitzer Prize for Music last year for her opera Prism. She also writes film music, and music for art installations. Her newest piece is a GPS-enabled soundwalk that takes you through New York’s Central Park – which  is an art installation of a sort. You download a free app and the music changes according to where you are and how long you stay there. Along the way you hear new music written for a range of performers, from members of the NY Phil to the Young People’s Chorus of New York, as well as the SOUNDWALK Ensemble, which includes the composer herself and members of yMusic. Her soundscape also includes surprise musical “Easter eggs,” including the World Premiere recording of Reid’s When the World As You’ve Known It Doesn’t Exist. Ellen Reid's immersive new Soundwalk just started at Central Park, and will be available until December 31, and possibly beyond.
