English in Soviet Schools

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

This recording, produced by Radio Moscow, describes how soviet schools teach English. The host [Annabelle Bucar] begins with quotes from two Educators after tours of the Soviet Union's education system: Dr. Martin Essex of the United States and [Jacqueline Danin] of Canada.

Next, reporter [Georgy Gorev] investigates methods of teaching English in soviet schools. They are recorded in class playing games and performing skits. For example, two boys perform a scene between Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He interviews teachers and administrators about their education and interest in English speaking countries.
