Erik Friedlander and Throw A Glass at Dixon Place
Tickets $15-20. Show at 7:30PM

Cellist Erik Friedlander has spent much of his career upending expectations of what you can do with a cello. He’s done some Americana-based projects where he’s picked up the cello and strummed it like a guitar; he’s also been a central player on New York’s so-called Downtown Jazz scene. His latest project is called Artemisia, and was inspired by the history of absinthe – the psychotropic liquor that was outlawed for many years. Erik Friedlander and his new band Throw A Glass -featuring Uri Caine on piano, Mark Helias on bass, and Ches Smith on drums - mark the album’s release with a concert tonight at Dixon Place.

This is "The Great Revelation" from the album Artemisia:
