Fabiano do Nascimento and Sam Gendel – "Foi Boto" (Weekly Music Roundup)
Brazilian guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento and American sax player Sam Gendel have been exploring some lesser known music from South America, and they’ve just teamed up on a lovely arrangement of “Foi Boto”, a 20th century Brazilian song originally written by the pianist and composer Waldemar Henrique. Nascimento plays the song’s folk-dance rhythm on a 7-string classical guitar, and Gendel’s soprano sax unfurls the melody with an almost flute-like purity; together, their instruments somehow make this song sound even more Brazilian than Henrique’s original. "Foi Boto", by Fabiano Do Nascimento and Sam Gendel is part of our Weekly Music Roundup. The full record, The Room, comes out in Jan. 2024.
