Federal Judge Tosses Trump Campaign's Lawsuit Against NJ's Vote-By-Mail Election

WNYC News | Oct 23, 2020

The President's campaign took issue with New Jersey's plan to automatically mail a ballot to every registered voter in the state, but never sought an injunction and ballots started arriving in mailboxes in late September. Now, more than a third have already been returned. Even so, the lawsuit had caused some anxiety among voters. Jesse Burns of the nonpartisan League of Women Voters says the lawsuit was an attempt by Republicans to undermine confidence in the election.

"It would have disenfranchised voters," Burns said. "It would not have made the system better."

The judge rejected the lawsuit’s claim that voting by mail would encourage fraud, which he said was based on speculation, not facts.
