Film Festival Shines Spotlight On 80 Years Of Black Women In Cinema

80 years of black women in cinema will be on display during the month-long series "Black Women: Trailblazing African American Actresses and Images."

Held at the Film Forum in Greenwich Village, the festival will feature 60 films and accompanying events. From musicals such as "Carmen Jones" and "Cabin in the Sky," to seminal dramas like "Jackie Brown" and "A Raisin In The Sun," the series will revisit iconic works by black women in Hollywood. 

Film critic Monica Castillo says this festival was first held 30 years ago. The line-up has been updated for 2020 -- offering audiences the chance to watch modern hits and rare classics alike. 

"It's a great chance to see all of these magnificent works and all of these performances within a huge historical context," Castillo said.
