Former Port Authority Chairman to Retire from Private Law Firm

WNYC News | Apr 7, 2015

Former Port Authority Chairman David Samson is retiring from the powerful New Jersey law firm he helped co-found more than 40 years ago.

Samson is a longtime associate of Governor Chris Christie and the subject of an ongoing federal investigation into the role he played in the George Washington Bridge scandal, as well as questions about a Hoboken development deal and alleged conflicts of interest surrounding his time at the Port Authority. The 75-year old will be leaving Wolff & Samson later this month.

The firm also announced that Jeff Chiesa, a former U.S. Senator and state attorney general has been promoted to a new leadership role at the firm, which is also being renamed Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi.

Wolff & Samson's lobbying business has declined by about 30% in the year since the fallout from the Bridgegate scandal. The private law firm's lobbying receipts are the only aspect of its income that are subject to mandatory public disclosure.

A spokesman said Samson has been planning his retirement for some time.
