Galeet Dardashti at B'Nai Jeshurun
Sept. 28. 8:30PM. Free.

Singer and musicologist Galeet Dardashti has written songs for her own band, Divahn, here in New York, but her family roots are in the Jewish community of Iran, and Dardashti’s latest project, called Monajat, takes rare recordings of her grandfather, Younes, a famous singer of the mid 20th century, singing not the popular Persian music he was known for but rather a set of Jewish prayers, and uses that as the basis for an album that features her own music, and occasionally her own voice. Galeet Dardashti presents this project on Sept. 28 at B’Nai Jeshurun.
