In 1980, the band Talking Heads released a milestone album called Remain in Light. Songwriter David Byrne and producer Brian Eno were deeply influenced by the so-called Afrobeat music of Fela Kuti and other West African musicians, and it showed in songs like this one, called “Born Under Punches.” Now, the Grammy winning singer Angelique Kidjo, from the West African nation of Benin, is bringing that influence full circle by performing the entire record live. 

Born Under Punches, from the Talking Heads record called Remain In Light.  The African influence will be made explicit onstage at Carnegie Hall tomorrow night when Angelique Kidjo and her band play the whole album live. Check out our live session with Kidjo’s band.
