Benjamin Booker’s debut album was a big deal, but his new album, Witness, his second, is even more socially and politically charged. Inspired by the writings of James Baldwin and the Black Lives Matter movement, Booker has created an album of blues-inflected rock that sounds classic but feels current. Benjamin Booker is playing tonight at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, and in the WNYC studio on Wednesday afternoon. This song features Mavis Staples:
