Gig Alert: Big Bliss

ARTIST: Big Bliss
GIG: Sunday at Union Pool

You can’t go name your band “Big Bliss” and be mopey about it. Unless you’ve got your tongue firmly in your cheek. This band has gone ahead and taken the name, and mixed a bit of the literal and the cheeky. Their music jets along on classic-sounding post-punk melodies, with guitars usually chiming rather than crunching. But, like all good post-punk, there’s a bit of darkness lurking in the corners. Take the song called “Old Guard,” with lyrics like “I can sense a change to what I consider safe”… They’ve got a record release show on Sunday at Union Pool – it’s a holiday weekend, go ahead and enjoy your Sunday night for once.
