When you’re playing the piano, you’ll often find the word ‘piano’ on your sheet music – it’s an instruction that means 'to play softly.' As in, no Jerry Lee Lewis banging on the keys, okay? Haskell Small plays the piano…piano! He frequently explores the softest range he can coax out of his instrument, and, in the process, lets those sounds represent something spiritual and transcendent. Haskell Small performs tonight in the suitably hallowed space of The Actor’s Chapel at St. Malachy’s Church.
