Jamaican-born pianist Monty Alexander came to New York in 1962, when he was 18, and he’s spent the following half a century or so mixing the sounds of jazz, American popular song, and the echoes of his island home. He’s played with everyone from Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett to Jamaica’s superstar reggae rhythm section of Sly & Robbie. Monty Alexander shows might include standards, surprises – like his version of "Meet The Flintstones" – and Caribbean flavored songs like "Fungi Mama." Monty Alexander’s Junkanoo Swing is at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola tonight thru Sunday.
