The Asheville, North Carolina, quartet River Whyless has a new record out next Friday. Called We All The Light, the band makes up for the questionable grammar of that title with some inspired blending of traditional sounds. Like previous single “All Day All Night,” this song “Falling Son” is situated squarely at the unlikely intersection of Appalachian string band music and the “desert blues” of West Africa. River Whyless is across the River East in Brooklyn at Rough Trade tonight.
