Gig Alert: Salute to Orrin Keepnews

Jazz, as a genre, has always been particularly obsessed with purity and precision of sound. There have been a handful of producers who have had outsized roles in the development of the sound—and business—of jazz. Tonight, luminaries of the form are celebrating the legacy of one such power player, the late Orrin Keepnews, who was key to the careers of Cannonball Adderley, Wes Montgomery, Thelonious Monk, and many more. On hand for an all-star salute at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola tonight will be NEA jazz masters such as Randy Weston and Jimmy Heath, and other local stalwarts.
