A Global Newsroom Digs Through the Panama Papers

On the Media | Apr 8, 2016

By sheer volume, the Panama Papers data leak is the largest in history. And it's already led to the resignation of the Icelandic Prime Minister.

The saga began when an anonymous leaker, "John Doe", reached out to a German reporter at the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. Overwhelmed, the paper sought help from the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which enlisted some 400 journalists from some 100 news outlets from nearly 80 countries.

Gerard Ryle, the director of the ICIJ, talks to Bob about how the "global newsroom" collaboration came together and what it portends for the future of investigative journalism.
