Gogol Bordello is not your average punk rock band. They incorporate the sounds of Romani or gypsy music from Southeastern Europe, and use the accordion and violin as much as they do the electric guitar. Gogol Bordello was started by singer and songwriter Eugene Hütz, who was born in Ukraine and came to the States in the early 90s as a political refugee. As you might imagine, he’s had a lot to say about the Russian invasion, and in August he led the band in an unannounced show for Ukrainian soldiers at the front line. Gogol Bordello play Dec. 29-31 at Brooklyn Bowl.
Their song, almost 10 years old, seems relevant once more – it’s called “We Rise Again.”
