The Gurdjieff Ensemble at Symphony Space

Gig Alerts | Sep 26, 2019

The Gurdjieff Ensemble at Symphony Space, on Friday, Sept. 27
Tickets: $35-65. Show at 7 pm.

The Gurdjieff Ensemble is an Armenian group that plays traditional instruments from that part of the world, at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. They’re named after the early 20th century mystic and philosopher G. I. Gurdjieff, and they often play the music of the early 20th century Armenian composer known as Komitas. Some of that music has the whirling or stamping sound of folk dances, but much of it has a kind of tragic beauty, even a haunted quality to it. The Gurdjieff Ensemble brings their traditional Armenian instruments to Symphony Space on Friday, Sept. 27.
