Since 2009, the Ecuadorian-American songwriter Roberto Carlos Lange has been putting out records under the name Helado Negro, making dreamy, sophisticated pop here in New York. But in March of 2020 he made what he thought would be a short trip to Marfa, Texas, and found himself stuck there when the pandemic hit. That feeling of being unmoored and away from home seems to be at the heart of his song, “Ya No Estoy Aqui,” or “I’m no longer here.” But Helado Negro’s soothing vocals and the song’s midtempo dance groove give a sense of comfort mixed in with the melancholy. He plays tomorrow night at the Knockdown Center.
