Hélène Grimaud and Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall
Hélène Grimaud and Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall, April 18
Tickets: $15-98. Show at 8 pm.
If all you know of Maurice Ravel is Ravel’s Boléro, that's a great start. You might also check out his one and only perfect String Quartet and his Piano Concerto in G.
Ravel wrote two piano concertos, one for a pianist who lost his right arm in World War I – that Concerto For the Left Hand is a somewhat darker work. But his Piano Concerto in G is bright, jazzy number, full of the sounds of the Roaring Twenties. Thursday night, April 18, the wonderful French pianist Hélène Grimaud, who is also one of America’s leading wolf conservationists, plays Ravel's Piano Concerto in G with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall. - Caryn Havlik
