Huang Ruo: Angel Island at BAM
Jan. 11-13, 7:30PM. $37.50-$50
Jan. 11 performance is SOLD OUT

Angel Island was supposed to be California’s answer to Ellis Island in New York: a point of entry for newcomers to America. But it turned out to be essentially a detention center for Chinese immigrants. Angel Island is now the name of a haunting music/theater piece by Chinese-American composer Huang Ruo, which uses string quartet, an Asian-American chorus, and film to tell the story. Angel Island by Huang Ruo opens on Jan. 11 at BAM and runs through Saturday, Jan. 13 as part of the annual Prototype Festival. Huang Ruo is also our guest on New Sounds at 11PM on Jan. 11 to talk about the piece.
