The New York band Ikebe Shakedown describes its music as instrumental soul. They blend the twangy electric guitars that you might hear in a spaghetti Western soundtrack with the brassy sounds of vintage soul, layered atop a funky rhythm section, and marinated in a bit of 70s psychedelia. As musical recipes go, it’s pretty tasty. As far as names go, Ikebe is Nigerian slang for your derriere, so Ikebe Shakedown isn’t just a name, it’s an instruction for how to respond to the music. Ikebe Shakedown plays tonight at Brooklyn Bowl, opening for Neal Francis.
