The Queens-born rapper Ja Rule started his music career in a streetwise hardcore hip hop style, but he soon pivoted to a more pop-oriented sound that turned out to be hugely successful. He kicked off the aughts with a string of hits, with singers like Jennifer Lopez, R Kelly, and Ashanti. Now, Ja Rule is marking the 20th anniversary of his multi-platinum, chart-topping album Pain Is Love with a show at Sony Hall. That album spawned two singles that hit number one on the Billboard charts, including "Always On Time," featuring Ashanti. Sony Hall presents what it's calling "an intimate evening with Ja Rule" for the 20th anniversary of Pain Is Love on Jan. 6
