Reflecting On A Life On Lithium

The Leonard Lopate Show | Oct 4, 2017

When Jaime Lowe was 16-years-old she stopped eating and sleep, and began hallucinating. It was the start of her struggles with bipolar disorder. Eventually, she found medication that helped her stabilize and pursue a career as a writer. In her new book Mental: Lithium, Love, and Losing My Mind, Lowe mixes memoir with an investigation into the drug's history, its use around the world and the consequences of using it over decades.

Jaime Lowe will appear for the Half King Reading Series (505 W. 23rd St., at 10th Ave.) at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10.
