#3690: January 2015 New Releases
It's that time of the month again for the new releases show on New Sounds. John Schaefer carefully sorts through the stacks, bins, and towers of new CDs, the odd record (WITH download code), Soundcloud and Bandcamp submissions, and digital offerings which have come across his desk or into his email over the past month to present some choice cuts. There's mainly rhythmic and percussive tracks: University of Central Florida Percussion plays new music by Marc Mellits, and pianist Lisa Moore plays Philip Glass’s "Mad Rush." Then there's music from the duo Clocked Out (prepared piano and percussion) and music by Canadian saxophonist and flutist Anna Webber (now Brooklyn-based) and her septet, Percussive Mechanics. In her work, "Tacos Wyoming," sax melodies gradually shift over time, carefully plotted out over precise gamelan-like vibe patterns and repeating drumset and piano pulses. All that, and more.
